Bridget Brennan

Another edition of Maria Pinto’s Spotlight Series, In Her Own Words, is here. Each month, we feature the dynamic, stylish, and powerful women who inspire us daily. This month’s spotlight features – Bridget Brennan; founder and CEO of Female Factor, a strategic advisory firm that helps businesses engage women consumers. Bridget is also a writer, having written two books, Why She Buys and Winning Her Business, as well as a professional speaker who travels globally to speak about the women’s consumer market.

How are you transitioning back to dressing for work?

After the pandemic, I needed a “fresh start” wardrobe. A good friend of mine, who has amazing style, recommended Maria Pinto and I have never looked back. The brand has reinvigorated my wardrobe. Maria Pinto offers me a magical combination of style, comfort, pockets and machine-washable fabrics. I never knew such a combination was possible!

Best piece of advice you've ever received?

I wholeheartedly believe in the adage, “The time to make a friend is not when you need one.” It speaks to the importance of making and nurturing relationships.

What was your path to getting where you are today?

In the early part of my career, I worked in marketing and public relations and was often struck by the lack of women-specific research in marketing and product development. This was exacerbated by the fact that women were often missing from the leadership roles that created these strategies. In 2006, I was inspired to fill this gap by starting my own business, Female Factor, to bring women’s consumer insights to the businesses that serve them. Nearly 20 years later, my firm specializes in research, sales and marketing strategies for companies of all kinds, from professional sports leagues to financial services to automotive and consumer goods.

What are some challenges you’re facing right now in your job or life, and how are you tackling them?

I am working on a new book, and every time I start researching a specific topic for a chapter, I always find a fascinating new piece of information that I want to start writing about, too. So, my challenge is to stay focused on my book’s theme when there are so many interesting things to write about – especially when the topic is women!

What hobbies, organizations, or philanthropies are you involved in?

I am a member of the Chicago Bears Women’s Advisory Board; the Economic Club of Chicago and the International Women’s Forum.

What do you love about being a woman?

I grew up as the oldest of five sisters, and perhaps because of that, one of the things I appreciate most about being a woman is being part of a global sisterhood.

What are you watching, reading, and listening to right now?

I just finished reading a new book and an old book - The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese and Shogun by James Clavell. They were both incredible. In non-fiction, I am currently reading Women Money Power by Josie Cox, which is eye-opening and phenomenal.

How do you create a work-life balance for yourself?

I am intentional about planning time for balance in my schedule. Since I travel for work, I am always looking for opportunities to build in hours or even days to see the areas I am fortunate enough to be visiting. For example, I recently had a speaking engagement in Australia and I made time to travel around that beautiful country while I was there. As a bonus, my husband was able to join me and we made great memories together.

How would you describe your personal style?

I am an active person, so it depends on the day. Style + comfort is always my goal.

Who are some of your style or fashion icons?

I am always inspired by confident women from every walk of life. To me, confidence is the foundation of great style.

What are your favorite Maria Pinto pieces?

The midnight blue Ricci dress. It’s so versatile – I wear it alone, I wear it with jackets, I wear it with heels, I wear it with sneakers – it is my “go to” dress for almost any occasion.
